Alterações em "Turin Quiet Nights: reduce noise hotspots with traffic calming + nightlife mediation in 4 areas"

Avatar: Hadrien Froger Hadrien Froger

Descrição (Français)

  • -

Goal: reduce night-time noise conflicts in Turin while keeping public space alive, through practical street design changes and clear mediation with venues.

    What we will do

    • Identify 4 noise hotspots (mixed residential + nightlife areas) using complaints data and on-site measurements.

    • Install traffic calming to cut engine noise: speed tables, narrowed lanes, and better crossings.

    • Create night-time “quiet routes” with signage guiding people away from residential facades.

    • Launch a mediation protocol with bars/venues: closing routines, outdoor queue management, staff training.

    • Run a pilot street steward team on weekends (information + de-escalation + coordination with services).

    Why this matters

    • Chronic noise impacts sleep, health, and daily functioning.

    • Conflicts between residents and venues escalate when rules are unclear or unenforced.

    • Small design changes can reduce noise without “killing” the city at night.

    How we’ll deliver

    1. Listening phase: meetings with residents, venue owners, and municipal services.

    2. Pilot: weekend stewards + temporary signage and street changes.

    3. Adjust: refine routes, add targeted measures where needed.

    4. Permanent rollout: build durable calming elements and publish the protocol publicly.

    Expected results

    • Lower peak noise levels and fewer repeated complaints in targeted streets.

    • Clearer shared rules and less conflict between users of the night and residents.

    • Improved safety and walkability around nightlife zones.

Notes: enforcement remains with the city, but this project focuses on prevention, clarity, and better street design first.
