Goal: improve flood preparedness in Gdańsk by combining transparent public data with small, high-impact drainage upgrades.
What we will do
Publish an Open Flood Map with historic incidents, vulnerable zones, and safe routes during heavy rain.
Create a simple public dashboard: rainfall alerts, blocked drain reporting, and response status.
Upgrade micro-drainage in 5 priority streets: additional inlets, grates, and local slope corrections.
Add rain gardens (where possible) to absorb runoff near schools and low points.
Run a community reporting campaign so residents can report flooded points with photos and location.
Why this matters
Short, intense storms are increasing and overwhelm local infrastructure.
Residents need clear, trustworthy information to make safe decisions.
Small works can prevent repeated damage while larger plans are developed.
How we’ll deliver
Data consolidation: collect and standardize city + emergency + citizen reports.
Prototype: publish a first map version and iterate with user feedback.
Works: deliver micro-drainage upgrades with minimal disruption.
Maintenance loop: monitor incidents and keep the dataset updated quarterly.
Expected results
Better preparedness and faster reporting during storms.
Reduced flooding recurrence in the 5 upgraded streets.
More trust through open data and visible response tracking.
Notes: the dashboard will publish aggregated information only and avoid exposing private addresses or sensitive infrastructure details.
